Just south of Lubeck on Germany's Baltic coast lies a medieval trade route that is every bit as fascinating and heavily traveled as it was centuries ago. Known as the Old Salt Road, this ancient network of passages was used to transport salt from one location to another and sustain the livelihood of countless cities and surrounding countries. Merchants and criminals alike trolled the roads daily, each vying to protect their precious cargo of "white gold." Over the years, the road itself became bleached white with use, offering little relief to weary travelers on their long and often perilous journey to port. You can imagine how welcome a good night's sleep might be after reaching the coast. Our Old Salt Road Panel Bed provides such a welcome, with custom inset ash burl veneer panels treated with a magnificent hand-rubbed finish. Traditional bun feet breathe a bit of movement into the stately frame, while the towering head and foot board design stand as staunchly upright as a German monument. Raised panels are offset by miter-joined edge molding, then burnished in the corners for a rich, age-old effect. The overall feeling is lush, worldly, unapologetically regal and decidedly timeless.
