Originally reserved for kings, fine marquetry has grown more accessible over the years--without losing its artisanal tradition. Still pieced, matched and applied by hand, delicate exposed grain veneer work remains as prized now as it did a century ago. Our Matchmaker's Palace Server is a prime example, featuring heavily figured, alternating satinwood and boxwood inlays. Ordered into a traditional starburst design, the radiating strips of razor mottle and fiddle back wood grains heighten the intricacy--and artistry--of the finished piece. The starburst motif is repeated on the serving surface, and accented with a central medallion. Pierced brass door handles and applique bow legs provide an elegant finishing touch.
